SCOOP: Janhvi Kapoor in talks to lead Sridevi's Chaalbaaz remake

Janhvi Kapoor is presently in the news for her performance in Param Sundari with Sidharth Malhotra. The actress has also created waves with the teaser of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsikumari co-starring Varun Dhawan. And now, Bollywood Hungama has got another exciting update on Janhvi Kapoor.

If our sources are to be believed, Janhvi Kapoor is all set to step into the shoes of her mother. A reliable insider informs us that a leading producer has offered the official remake of Chaalbaaz to Janhvi Kapoor. "For Janhvi, Chaalbaaz is a lot more than just a film. It's an emotion. She has jumped onto the chance of playing the lead role in Chaalbaaz, but is treading this with utmost caution," a source told Bollywood Hungama.

The source also informed us that Janhvi doesn't want to just cash in on her mother's legacy. "She is taking opinions from people around for the Chaalbaaz remake. She is excited, but is also wary of all the comparisons. She is expected to take a call on the Chaalbaaz remake by the end of September," the source told us further.

The details on the producers and directors have been kept under wraps for now, but we are surely excited to see Janhvi in the world of Chaalbaaz, much like her mother.

Mumbai’s Famous Studios to be demolished for a 69-Storey luxury tower marking the end of an era

Another slice of Mumbai’s cinematic legacy is set to disappear. Famous Studios, the 79-year-old film hub in Mahalaxmi that once echoed with lights, cameras, and action, will soon be razed to make room for a glitzy residential skyscraper.

The studio, founded in 1943 by J. B. Roongta, has been a part of Bollywood’s history for nearly eight decades, offering state-of-the-art facilities for shooting, sound recording, and post-production. From iconic films to ad shoots, countless projects passed through its gates, making it a landmark in the city’s creative ecosystem. But the curtains are finally coming down.

Reports suggest that the landowners themselves will be sealing the deal and currently quite keen on partnering with K Raheja Corp Real Estate. It has been learnt that they have finalized plans to redevelop the 70,000 sq ft plot into a high-rise residential tower. According to layouts submitted to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the new project will rise 69 floors above Mahalaxmi, with apartments starting from the ninth floor. Designed as plush 3- and 4-BHK homes, each residence will offer sweeping views of the Arabian Sea and Mahalaxmi Race Course.

The commercial component of the project will be minimal, with the majority of the 4.3 lakh sq ft of built-up area reserved for luxury homes. A mixed-use tag aside, the emphasis is clear—Mahalaxmi’s evolving skyline is leaning heavily toward upscale living.

Interestingly, the redevelopment plan also takes into account connectivity with the Mumbai Metro. The upcoming tower is expected to fall within 500 metres of the Science Museum Metro Station, and feasibility studies are already exploring a direct vestibule link between the two.

If this deal is sealed, for K Raheja Corp, this will mark their third major residential project in Mahalaxmi after Vivarea and Modern Vivarea, further solidifying the area’s transformation into a high-end residential hotspot.

The demolition of Famous Studios is expected to begin by the end of the year, likely before Christmas The move comes on the heels of similar redevelopments, including Goregaon’s Filmistan Studio, which is also being replaced by luxury towers. With nearly 80 years of cinematic legacy behind it, the studio will now soon be confined to memories and archives as it gears up to join the long list of Mumbai’s iconic film addresses lost to the city’s ever-rising skyline.

Sachet-Parampara win legal battle over ‘Raanjhan’; copyright allegations by KMKZ rejected

The music duo Sachet-Parampara have successfully defended their chart-topping song ‘Raanjhan’ against recent copyright allegations made by foreign musician KMKZ. The claims, which alleged that the track was copied, were reviewed by multiple major streaming platforms and found to be entirely baseless.

Before the song’s public release, all project files for ‘Raanjhan’ had been submitted to streaming services for verification. After careful evaluation, platforms including YouTube and Spotify confirmed that Sachet-Parampara were the rightful creators, rejecting KMKZ’s copyright claims.

In response to the incident, Sachet-Parampara have filed a defamation case against KMKZ, citing the allegations as false and damaging to their professional reputation. The duo emphasized that the musical composition of ‘Raanjhan’ is based on a standard F# major chord progression—including F#5, F#5 major 7, B sus 2, E flat minor, D flat, and E flat minor—which is commonly used in numerous original works across genres. They stated that such progressions cannot form the basis for plagiarism claims.

Speaking about the matter, Sachet-Parampara said, “The person alleging they composed the music for Raanjhan is making completely baseless accusations, clearly intended to stir controversy and gain visibility. With the consultation of my lawyers, I have issued a defamation notice, and we are prepared to take strict legal action to address this malicious attempt to discredit our work. We’ve already provided the original session files and piano scores to YouTube, Spotify, and other streaming platforms, all of which confirmed our authorship and rejected any other copyright claims.”

The duo also reiterated their commitment to creating original, genre-defining music, stating that they would continue focusing on their craft while letting their work speak for itself.

The incident highlights the increasing challenges faced by music creators in the digital age, where false copyright claims can spread rapidly, potentially harming reputations. By taking prompt legal and procedural action, Sachet-Parampara have reinforced the importance of protecting intellectual property while maintaining transparency with music platforms.

With the allegations now dismissed, fans of the duo can continue enjoying ‘Raanjhan’, which has been praised for its melody, arrangement, and emotional resonance, without concerns over its originality or authorship.

EXCLUSIVE: The Bengal Files is 1 minute longer than Animal; CBFC censors 'contemptuous' words against transgenders; makers voluntarily remove Gopal Mukhopadhyay's mention in several scenes

After delivering films like The Tashkent Files (2019), The Kashmir Files (2022) and The Vaccine War (2023), director Vivek Agnihotri is back with another hard hitting film, The Bengal Files. The makers of the film secured the censor certificate in advance and Bollywood Hungama, in this article, would exclusively focus on the same.

To begin with, the film wasn't passed by the Examining Committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Bengal Files was referred to the Reviving Committee (RC) presumably due to its content. The RC passed the film but asked for some changes.

The RC asked the makers to remove 'contemptuous' words against the transgender community and replace them with appropriate terms. Similarly, the pictures of prominent personalities were removed and replaced. As per the directive of the RC, the makers submitted supporting documents for the historical events depicted in the film. The makers also provided consent letters from the parents of the child artists involved in the film. Lastly, the disclaimer was depicted with a larger font and also a voiceover.

Once these changes were made, the CBFC passed the film with an 'A' certificate. The duration of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 204.30 minutes. In other words, The Bengal Files is 3 hours 24 minutes and 30 seconds.

The censor certificate was handed over to the makers on June 25, 2025. Nearly two months later, on August 26, the makers once again approached the CBFC to make voluntary changes in 29 places. The dialogue '100 years old' was changed to 'An old woman who has dementia'. A photo was added in a phone scene while in another place, a phone video was changed. The dialogue 'Bharat ko ek din iska bahut bada harzana dena padega' was reduced. The name Gopal Mukhopadhyay was removed at multiple places.

Further, a scene of vulture and baby was deleted while in another scene, an owl scene was added. The makers also changed text in several scenes.

The makers made two additions - the duration of the scene of the newspaper was increased by a second. In another scene, text and newspaper scene was added in place of another scene, and it's runtime is 68 seconds.

In this way, the makers deleted 1 minute 42 seconds while they added 1 minute 44 seconds. As a result, the revised length of The Bengal Files is 204.32 minutes, or 3 hours, 24 minutes and 32 seconds.

The Bengal Files is the longest Bollywood film in a long time. It is one minute longer than Animal (2023) and 4 minutes longer than the theatrical version of Pushpa 2 (2024). It stars Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumaar, Pallavi Joshi, Saswata Chatterjee and others. It is all set to release on September 5.

Pati Patni Aur Woh 2: AICWA condemns attack on the crew of Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan starrer in Prayagraj

Bollywood stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan faced a shocking ordeal along with the entire team of Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 during the shoot of this upcoming romantic comedy in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. According to recent reports, local miscreants attacked members of the film crew in broad daylight, exposing glaring lapses in security arrangements for film productions in the state. And now, All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has issued a press statement calling out this kind of behaviour.

The incident, captured in videos that surfaced on social media over the past two days, shows the crew being assaulted while shooting on location. AICWA’s statement strongly condemned the attack, questioning how filmmakers, actors, and technicians can risk their lives in an environment where law and order are evidently compromised. The association said, “If the Uttar Pradesh Government cannot provide safety and security to those engaged in film production, then what is the purpose of promoting Noida Film City as a shooting hub?”

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, AICWA emphasized the potential impact on Uttar Pradesh’s image and the larger film industry. “Prayagraj is known worldwide for the historic Kumbh Mela, a symbol of India’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. But incidents like this bring shame to the city’s image on the global stage. Instead of being remembered for peace, faith, and culture, Prayagraj is now making headlines for lawlessness and attacks on film artists,” the statement read.

The association has made three urgent demands including immediate registration of an FIR against the miscreants involved in the violence, strict and foolproof security measures for all film shoots across Uttar Pradesh, and restoration of faith among producers, actors, and technicians to ensure Noida Film City does not lose its standing as a safe and reliable shooting destination. AICWA’s appeal was also directed at the Chief Minister, Shri Yogi Adityanath, urging strict action to prevent such disgraceful incidents and reassure the film fraternity about their safety in the state.

PRESS STATEMENT

Date: 29th August 2025

Meanwhile, the film itself is a spiritual sequel to the 2019 hit romantic comedy Pati Patni Aur Woh and is directed by Mudassar Aziz. Alongside Ayushmann and Sara, the movie stars Wamiqa Gabbi in a parallel lead role and features an ensemble cast. The production team is currently wrapping up shooting in Prayagraj, despite the security scare.

The attack raises critical questions about safety protocols on film sets, especially when high-profile stars are involved. It has sent ripples of concern across the Indian film industry, reminding authorities that robust security is indispensable to safeguard not only the talent but also the hardworking crew that brings movies to life.

Do You Wanna Partner Trailer: Tamannaah Bhatia, Diana Penty enter into a ‘tipsy’ partnership; Nakuul Mehta, Shweta Tiwari will leave you surprised

Prime Video has unveiled the trailer of its upcoming Hindi original comedy drama series Do You Wanna Partner, starring Tamannaah Bhatia and Diana Penty in lead roles. The show, produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, will premiere on September 12 in India and across 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Backed by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, and Apoorva Mehta as producers, with Somen Mishra and Archit Kumar as executive producers, the series is directed by Archit Kumar and Collin D'Cunha. The script comes from Nandini Gupta, Aarsh Vora, and Mithun Gangopadhyay, with Gangopadhyay and Nishant Nayak as creators. The ensemble cast also includes Jaaved Jaaferi, Nakuul Mehta, Shweta Tiwari, Neeraj Kabi, Sufi Motiwala, and Rannvijay Singha.

The trailer sets the tone with a quirky, high-energy look into the lives of best friends Shikha (Tamannaah Bhatia) and Anahita (Diana Penty). Determined to break into the start-up space, the duo launch their own craft beer brand, only to find themselves tangled with eccentric investors, beer barons, and unexpected chaos. At its heart, the show is a story about friendship, ambition, and the unpredictable journey of turning dreams into reality.

"Do You Wanna Partner is one of the most layered, emotionally complex yet fun shows I've ever been a part of. What makes it truly special is how it celebrates female friendships and the spirit of sisterhood without turning it into a women-versus-men narrative,” said actor Tamannaah Bhatia. “It's a story that celebrates friendship, hustle, and the courage to turn the craziest ideas into reality. For me, playing the role of Shikha and working with the incredible cast and crew has been a transformative experience. I'm thrilled to be back with Prime Video, and I can't wait for audiences across the world to join us on this wild, exciting and courageous ride."

“When I first came across the story of Do You Wanna Partner, what immediately drew me in was the authentic chemistry between the two female leads – something we so rarely get to see portrayed with such depth on screen. The show doesn’t just explore the entrepreneurial journey, it also beautifully captures the magic of collaboration and female friendship, making it deeply relatable,” said actor Diana Penty. “Playing Anahita – a woman who pursues her dreams with resilience while standing by her best friend and navigating the many challenges of being an entrepreneur – has been both exciting and empowering. This series is truly a labour of love, brought to life by a wonderful cast and crew, and I can’t wait for audiences everywhere to experience this story that celebrates not only business partnerships, but also the unshakeable bonds of friendship.”

"Directing Do You Wanna Partner has been an exhilarating creative journey. As a filmmaker, what appealed to me was how the story celebrated female friendship and the entrepreneurial spirit, bringing to life the story of two best friends who challenge societal norms and carve their own unique path,” said director Collin D’Cunha. “What sets this series apart is the authentic chemistry between our cast – Tamannaah. Diana, Jaaved, Nakuul, Shweta, Neeraj, Sufi and Rannvijay – which we've carefully crafted to create a portrayal of friendship rarely seen on screen, and the hustle that is representative of every Indian entrepreneur. Our goal was to capture the madness and magic of collaboration - in business, in friendship, and in life – and I believe, with the support of Dharmatic Entertainment and Prime Video we've achieved something truly special. I'm excited for audiences to experience this series when it premieres on Prime Video on September 12”.

"What excited me most about Do You Wanna Partner was the chance to tell a story about women owning their ambition in a space traditionally dominated by men – with humour, grit, and unapologetic honesty," said director and executive producer Archit Kumar. "Through extensive research into Indian startup founders' journeys, particularly women entrepreneurs, we developed a tone that balances boldness with genuine relatability. The chemistry between Tamannaah and Diana and the entire cast became the cornerstone of our storytelling, bringing nuance and depth to the narrative and their characters. Together, with the support of our remarkable crew, we have created this wonderful, vibrant world and we cannot wait to bring this to viewers in India and across the world."

With its mix of comedy, drama, and slice-of-life storytelling, Do You Wanna Partner promises to bring a refreshing perspective to Prime Video’s catalogue, while spotlighting the complexities of friendship and the hustle of entrepreneurship.

Sonam Kapoor lends silent support to backlash against Guru Randhawa music video after it sparks outrage

Singer Guru Randhawa has landed in hot water after his latest music video stirred massive outrage online. The video, which features adult women dressed as school girls, has been criticized for its problematic portrayal and disturbing theme. What has particularly angered audiences is the song’s lyrics, which compare school girls to tequila, as well as the storyline where an adult photographer is seen crushing on one of the school girls.

Soon after the release, a leading publication called out the video on social media for promoting regressive and dangerous fantasies. Actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, who has often voiced her opinion on social issues, seemed to support the criticism by liking the post, thereby subtly amplifying the conversation around the song.

The backlash on social media has been relentless, with many netizens slamming both the concept and the messaging of the video.

Several users expressed their outrage in strong words, “Yes! This is the first thing that shocked me when I saw the music video. It’s 2025 and ppl still don’t under the implications of such things floating around on social media. Literally school kids are consuming this message that sexualizing school girls is okay!!” “Thank you for highlighting this. It is so disgusting that in today’s day and age, firstly these are the lyrics and then the school girl fantasy is what the artist has gone for in a country that not only has heightened sexual crime against women but also against children. Makes me sick,” added another user. A social media user shared their experience after watching the video, “I was horrified watching the video song, how is something so unacceptable being normalised.”

These comments has reflected a larger public sentiment questioning how such content was cleared for release in the first place, especially at a time when conversations about women’s safety and child protection are at the forefront in India.

With Sonam Kapoor’s subtle endorsement of the criticism adding fuel to the debate, the controversy around Guru Randhawa’s music video shows no signs of slowing down. As calls for accountability grow louder, all eyes are now on the singer and his team to see how they respond to the storm.

Papa Kehte Hain star Mayoori Kango is now leading Publicis Groupe in India

Remember Mayoori Kango, the girl-next-door who made her big Bollywood debut in Papa Kehte Hain (1996) opposite Jugal Hansraj? While her filmi career was short-lived, she’s now making waves in an entirely different world. The actress-turned-professional has rejoined Publicis Groupe in a high-profile role, proving that her journey took a very unexpected turn after Bollywood.

According to her latest LinkedIn update, Mayoori is now part of the global executive leadership team for Publicis Global Delivery (PGD) and has also been named CEO of the company’s India Delivery Center. Quite the leap from silver screen ingénue to corporate head honcho.

Announcing her big career move, she wrote, “I'm delighted to share that I've rejoined Publicis Groupe as part of the global executive leadership team for #Publicis Global Delivery (PGD). In this role, I'll be partnering with the PGD Global team to shape our global solutions and services across media, tech, and digital — while also stepping up our AI practice… It feels great to be back — grateful for the warm welcome and excited for the journey ahead.”

Interestingly, this isn’t her first time with the global advertising giant. Mayoori had earlier served as the Managing Director at Performics, a performance marketing agency under Publicis, before moving on to other roles, including a stint at Google.

But for Bollywood buffs, she’ll always be the fresh-faced starlet of Papa Kehte Hain. Though she followed it up with Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet (1999) and a string of TV shows like Dollar Bahu (2001), Thoda Gham Thodi Khushi, and Karishma: The Miracles of Destiny (2003), her acting career never really hit the big league.

By the mid-2000s, Mayoori had moved away from showbiz, completed her MBA in 2007, and steadily built her corporate career. Today, she’s a name to reckon with in advertising and digital media leadership — far removed from the song-and-dance routines of the ’90s.

So if you ever wondered, “Where is the Papa Kehte Hain girl now?” — the answer is: running boardrooms, not Bollywood sets.

Saiyami Kher joins Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan; see pic

Actor Saiyami Kher has officially joined the cast of Priyadarshan’s much-anticipated film Haiwaan. The film, featuring Bollywood stalwarts Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, has commenced shooting in Kochi and is already generating considerable buzz within the industry.

Haiwaan marks a special collaboration for several reasons. For Saiyami Kher, it is the first time she will share screen space with Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, and director Priyadarshan. For audiences, it also marks the long-awaited reunion of Akshay and Saif on screen after 18 years, following their last outing together in Tashan. With filming underway at a brisk pace, anticipation surrounding the project continues to build.

Expressing her excitement, Saiyami Kher said, “Walking onto the set of Haiwaan has been overwhelming in the most beautiful way. I still remember being that little girl who sat wide-eyed in a theatre, watching Akshay sir redefine action as the or laughing endlessly at Saif sir’s effortless comic timing in films that became part of our growing-up years. Back then, I never imagined that one day I would actually be on a set with the very people whose films shaped my love for cinema."

She further added, "There are moments now, when I look around and have to remind myself this is real. These are the same faces I once watched from the audience, and today I’m sharing the frame with them. And then there is Priyan sir. For me, he’s not just a director, he’s a storyteller who has given us some of the most iconic films. To be guided by his vision, is something I will always carry with me. His films were a big part of why I fell in love with movies, and now, to be on his set, is like life coming full circle. We’ve only just begun shooting, but I’m just soaking it all in, excitement, the nerves, the gratitude. My heart is full, and I feel incredibly blessed to be a small part of a film that already feels so special.”

With a unique combination of talent both in front of and behind the camera, Haiwaan, that is also expected to feature Shriya Pilgaonkar, is shaping up to be one of the most exciting releases to watch out for in the coming months.

Madras HC steps in as Boney Kapoor battles fresh ownership claims over Sridevi’s 1988 ECR property

The Madras High Court has stepped into a fresh legal battle involving late Bollywood icon Sridevi’s property on Chennai’s East Coast Road (ECR), directing the Tambaram tahsildar to make a clear decision within four weeks. The case was brought forward by film producer Boney Kapoor, who has accused three individuals of fraudulently staking ownership over land his wife had purchased back in 1988.

Justice N. Anand Venkatesh, who presided over the matter, issued the directive after hearing Kapoor’s plea to cancel a legal heirship certificate obtained by the claimants in 2005. According to Kapoor, the document was wrongly issued in their favour and is now being used to assert rights over Sridevi’s farmhouse property.

The contested land has deep roots, tracing back to its original owner, M.C. Sambanda Mudaliar. His family had divided the property among three sons and two daughters through a mutual arrangement in 1960. Relying on this arrangement, Sridevi lawfully purchased the land on April 19, 1988, through a registered deed. Since then, the actor and her family had full possession and use of the property, which functioned as a farmhouse retreat.

Trouble surfaced years later when three individuals—claiming to be the second wife and children of one of Mudaliar’s sons—suddenly began asserting inheritance rights. To support their claims, they secured a legal heirship certificate from the Tambaram tahsildar in 2005.

Kapoor, however, has strongly contested the validity of their claims on multiple grounds. His petition argued that the tahsildar had no jurisdiction to issue such a certificate, since the original landowner was a resident of Mylapore. More importantly, he asserted that the so-called second marriage was not legally valid, making the trio ineligible as legal heirs under the Hindu Succession Act.

Presenting all necessary evidence to demonstrate that the purchase was genuine and duly registered, Kapoor urged the court to recognize the certificate as fraudulent. Justice Venkatesh, after considering both sides, instructed the Tambaram tahsildar to examine the matter thoroughly and deliver a conclusive decision within the stipulated four-week period.

As the battle unfolds, the dispute has drawn attention not only because of the legal complexities but also due to the emotional weight it carries—touching upon the legacy of one of Indian cinema’s most beloved stars, whose untimely passing in 2018 still resonates with millions of fans.

Inspector Zende Trailer: Netflix promises a showdown between Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh in a high-stakes cat-and-mouse chase

Netflix has unveiled the trailer of its upcoming film Inspector Zende, set to stream exclusively on the platform from September 5. Written and directed by Chinmay Mandlekar and produced by Jay Shewakramani and Om Raut, the film is loosely inspired by the real-life story of Inspector Madhukar Zende, a street-smart Mumbai cop who became a legend for capturing the notorious “Swimsuit Killer,” Carl Bhojraj — not once, but twice.

Set in an era before CCTV surveillance and digital forensics, Inspector Zende traces the relentless pursuit of a cop who relied on instinct, resourcefulness, and teamwork to bring down one of the city’s most elusive criminals.

The film stars Manoj Bajpayee in the titular role, with Jim Sarbh portraying Carl Bhojraj. The supporting cast includes Sachin Khedekar, Bhalchandra Kadam, Harish Dudhade, Onkar Raut, Bharat Savale, and Nitin Bhajan as part of Zende’s trusted team. Girija Oak and Vaibhav Mangale also appear in key roles. The trailer teases a mix of quirky camaraderie, intense drama, and an unforgettable chase that spans across cities before culminating in Goa.

Sharing his thoughts on playing Inspector Zende, Manoj Bajpayee said, “What fascinated me about Inspector Zende was that he wasn’t chasing glory — he was just doing his job, yet caught one of the most notorious criminals twice. His bravery, humour, and that unmistakable Mumbai flavour make his journey truly inspiring. Meeting him felt like stepping into a storybook, with a lifetime of tales to tell. Playing him let me dive into a world that’s as gritty as it is entertaining. The trailer is only a glimpse — the film takes you right into the heart of it. I’m glad his story is finally getting the spotlight it deserves, and that too globally on Netflix.”

A post shared by Netflix India (@netflix_in)

Director Chinmay D. Mandlekar added, “Inspector Zende’s real-life chase had all the ingredients of a gripping film: a larger-than-life cop, a slippery antagonist, and an unforgettable era of Mumbai. But what really stayed with me was the camaraderie, the small moments, and the quirks of the people involved. The trailer hints at the chase, but the film lets you live every beat of it. I can’t wait for audiences to experience it on Netflix.”

With its blend of action, wit, and nostalgia, Inspector Zende aims to bring alive a story of courage and resilience, as the Swimsuit Killer meets his match.

Tina Ahuja breaks silence on Govinda-Sunita divorce buzz: “It’s all rumours”

Bollywood actor Tina Ahuja has finally responded to the persistent rumours surrounding her parents, Govinda and Sunita Ahuja, and their alleged divorce. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Tina dismissed the reports outright, calling them baseless and untrue.

“It’s all rumours. I don’t pay attention to these rumours,” Tina said firmly. She further added, “I feel blessed to have a beautiful family, and I’m truly grateful for all the love, concern and support we’ve been receiving from the media, fans, and loved ones.”

The clarification comes after weeks of speculation that began when Sunita Ahuja shared an emotional vlog online. The video sparked chatter about potential trouble in the couple’s marriage. This was followed by claims that Govinda and Sunita were living separately, and further fuel was added when some reports suggested that Tina herself had filed for divorce at the Family Court in Mumbai.

Adding to the confusion, Govinda’s manager had earlier told media outlets that a divorce petition was indeed filed by Sunita months ago. However, he also clarified that the two have since decided to give their marriage another chance. In fact, the manager confirmed that the family is planning to come together for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, hosting their traditional Ganpati pooja at home as always.

For fans of Govinda, the veteran actor known for his evergreen comedy and dance moves, the rumours had come as a shock. His decades-long marriage with Sunita has often been cited as one of the stronger partnerships in Bollywood. While disagreements between the couple have made headlines in the past, both have largely maintained a united front in public.

Tina’s strong dismissal of the rumours signals that the family is working towards moving past the speculation. With the festive season around the corner and the Ganpati celebrations being a major family tradition, the Ahujas seem determined to show that they are very much together.

As of now, neither Govinda nor Sunita have issued a direct statement. But with Tina’s comments and the upcoming family celebration, it seems the divorce chatter has been firmly put to rest—at least for now.

Shraddha Kapoor appeals to LinkedIn after the platform blocks her account: “Want to share my entrepreneurial journey”

Bollywood star Shraddha Kapoor recently found herself amid an unexpected digital hiccup, as her verified LinkedIn account was suddenly blocked, prompting the actress to publicly request assistance. Despite having a premium, verified profile, Kapoor discovered that her account had been flagged as “fake,” rendering it invisible to others and hampering her ability to share professional updates.

Taking to Instagram on the night of Saturday, August 23, Kapoor addressed the issue directly. In her Instagram Story, she wrote, “Dear LinkedIn @linkedin_in, I’m unable to access my own account because LinkedIn believes it’s fake. Can someone assist me? The account is set up, premium, and verified, yet no one can see it. I want to begin sharing my entrepreneurial journey, but getting the account operational has turned into a journey itself.”

The incident appears to be the result of a misunderstanding within LinkedIn’s verification or moderation system. Reports indicate that her account, though verified and set up to share her entrepreneurial ventures, was mistakenly flagged and subsequently blocked.

Shraddha’s light-hearted, humorous appeal has struck a chord with fans and followers who have rallied behind her, offering support and engagement across social media platforms. As she continues to manage this digital hurdle, Kapoor remains undeterred, eager to resume sharing her business journey and insights through the platform.

At present, there has been no official response from LinkedIn addressing her plea or clarifying the status of her account.

Screen Awards 2025 goes digital: Iconic celebration premieres on YouTube

The Indian Express Group is proud to unveil a bold reimagining of Screen Awards 2025 on YouTube, one of India’s most iconic celebrations, of cinema and storytelling.

The Screen Awards 2025 is more than just an awards show. Combining editorial credibility, cultural legacy, and digital reach, it reflects the Indian Express Group’s journalism-first ethos. Winners are selected by the Screen Academy, an independent, not-for-profit body of respected filmmakers, artists, and cultural voices dedicated to honouring true excellence.

Anant Goenka, Executive Director of the Indian Express Group said, “Indian cinema deserves a stage that celebrates creativity beyond collections. Our storytellers carry 1.4 billion dreams — rooted in tradition and racing toward an exciting future. This award will honour that spirit and spotlight India’s boldest, most original voices. We’re thrilled YouTube shares our enthusiasm for this endeavour."

Taking a digital-first approach to content and format, the Screen Awards will stream on YouTube — offering open access to global audiences. For the first time ever, Bollywood’s biggest stars will share the spotlight with YouTube’s most influential creators, who will be woven into every leg of this three-month-long festival — from red carpet and behind-the-scenes content to creator-led storytelling and fan engagement.

This digital-first approach highlights how audiences are increasingly consuming entertainment, driven by trends like rising internet access, the growth of Connected TVs (CTV), and greater mobile usage. CTV, in particular, has been YouTube’s fastest-growing screen in India over the past five years, underlining the platform’s ability to deliver premium content across screens and formats. It combines the grandeur of cinema with the immediacy of digital storytelling, connecting generations, platforms, and communities.

Speaking on the collaboration, Gunjan Soni, Managing Director - India, YouTube said, “We are thrilled to be the digital home for the Screen Awards, bringing a cultural icon to its next chapter. YouTube is where billions of fans connect with the entertainment they love, and we're excited for them to experience one of cinema's biggest nights in an immersive way. By bridging Bollywood's biggest stars with YouTube's most influential creators, we're building an engaged community for an iconic event and unlocking the power of fandoms."

With unparalleled reach in India and globally, YouTube is an ideal home for the Screen Awards. According to ComScore, YouTube reaches four out of five internet users in India aged 18 and older, while entertainment videos on the platform generated over 7.5 billion daily views worldwide in 2024.

Adding to the announcement, Priyanka Sinha Jha, Curator of the Screen Awards, stated, "Established in 1995, Screen Awards has a legacy of  firsts: the first jury-based film award in India, the first award show the Oscars management attended and vouched for, and the first accolade earned by several of today’s superstars. With the inception of The Screen Academy and our partnership with YouTube, we mark another first for India — building on our reputation for presenting the nation’s most credible and coveted awards, delivered with path-breaking entertainment.”

Screen Awards 2025 offers unprecedented visibility, cultural relevance, and multi-format storytelling opportunities for brands looking to connect with India's most engaged audiences — both online and offline.

Bengali superstar Victor Banerjee appeals to the President of India for a smooth release of The Bengal Files in West Bengal

Victor Banerjee has started a petition campaign for the smooth release of Vivek Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files in West Bengal.

Said Vivek, “As you may already know, the film The Bengal Files is scheduled for screening on September 5, 2025. This film represents a courageous first attempt to bring to light a dark and painful chapter in the history of Bengal and India. However, in a deeply concerning development, the trailer of the film was illegally and forcibly stopped during its launch event in Kolkata.”

Victor reiterated his misgivings regarding the controversial film’s release in his home territory. “We have every reason to believe that the upcoming screening of the film in West Bengal may also face deliberate obstruction or suppression. Such actions not only violate the freedom of artistic expression but also deny citizens their constitutional right to truth and free thought. We are therefore making an urgent appeal to the Honorable President of Bharat to ensure that the screening is allowed to take place peacefully, without intimidation or interference, and that the rights of artists and audiences are fully protected.”

SHOCKING: Imran Khan recalls the time when his script was PLAGIARIZED: "I was powerless; they didn't know about my family; to them, I was just a kid off the street"

A big fear that plagues scriptwriters in our industry is that someone might plagiarize their script. Believe it or not, Imran Khan also went through a similar turmoil way back in 2005. The actor spoke about it in detail in an interview with Planet Bollywood.

Imran Khan began by saying, “The incident about me taking a script to a channel and it getting stolen happened in early 2005. In the aftermath of that, I found I was completely powerless and could not catch hold of the guys who did this to me. I had gone into this meeting. It had been set up through contacts. These people had no context of my family relationships or background. To them, I was just a kid off the street. That is why they felt comfortable enough to lift my script. I was helpless and could not hold them accountable. I was very upset about it. If I had some name or recognition of my own, they might not have done this. To what extent that is true is a debatable point. I was 22 at that point.”

Imran Khan further said, “I had spent a few months roaming the city and trying to find a position as an AD (assistant director). I had met a few people. One guy was working in the production department. He reached out to me and said that Abbas Tyrewala is making a film, and they are looking for new faces. They want you to come and audition for a part. I was aware of Abbas as I had seen his name on the credits of a few films I had liked. I had particularly appreciated his work as a lyricist. He had written lyrics for some songs I thought were very good. He had done some amount of screenwriting by then also. Since I recognized his name, I decided to meet him. We hit it off well in the very first meeting. I screen-tested for the part. Nandini Shrikent was the casting director of the film.”

The film in question was Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008), which became his debut film.

EXCLUSIVE: Rowdy Rathore 2 scrapped after 3 years; script now being reworked into a standalone original film

‘Rowdy Rathore 2’ seems not to be happening anymore. Industry sources have exclusively informed us that producers Shabinaa Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have scrapped the much-awaited sequel after three years of persistent but fruitless efforts to develop it. And the script intended for the sequel will now be used to make a standalone original film.

Disney India, which owns the intellectual property rights to the original Rowdy Rathore (2012) along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali after its acquisition of Ronnie Screwvala’s UTV Motion Pictures, has reportedly been hesitant to greenlight the sequel despite initial discussions. “With Disney unwilling to commit, Shabinaa Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have decided to scrap the idea of Rowdy Rathore 2 altogether and repurpose the script into a standalone commercial entertainer, free from the Rowdy Rathore tag,” a source exclusively told Bollywood Hungama.

The script, penned by veteran screenplay writer V. Vijayendra Prasad, is now undergoing significant revisions to make it a fresh, high-octane cop drama while retaining the mass-entertainment appeal of the 2012 action blockbuster that got Akshay Kumar on top of the Bollywood charts again after a series of box office failures.

We have also heard that renowned Tamil filmmaker P.S. Mithran has been signed on to direct the film, with plans to take it into production early next year. Mithran is widely known for directing stylish and commercially successful Tamil films such as Vishal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s techno-thriller, ‘Irumbu Thirai’ (2018); Sivakarthikeyan’s 2019 superhero film, ‘Hero’; and Karthi’s spy action thriller ‘Sardar’ (2022). His next directorial, ‘Sardar 2,’ starring Karthi, SJ Suryah, and Malavika Mohanan, is scheduled to release in theatres in December 2025.

Casting of this revised, brand-new action entertainer hasn't been finalized yet, but sources indicate that Sidharth Malhotra, who was initially in talks to headline the film, might not be involved anymore as the makers are now hesitant to cast him, citing concerns about his box-office draw in an action-driven role. Instead, they are actively seeking a younger, bankable star to play a hard-hitting, larger-than-life police officer who will go to any lengths to protect his people. Alia Bhatt’s NCB campaign video faces online backlash

Alia Bhatt recently appeared in a campaign video released by the Chandigarh division of the Narcotics Control Bureau. What was meant to be a strong awareness message soon turned into controversy online, drawing sharp reactions from many users. The criticism eventually forced the agency to turn off comments on the post, but the video still remained the talk of social media, with many continuing to share and react to it in different ways.

The clip was shared on NCB’s official X account, where Alia urged people to stand against drugs and support the bureau’s mission. Within hours of being posted, the video gained traction and went viral, crossing 1.1 million views and being shared more than 680 times. The caption on the post read, "Alia Bhatt joins hands with NCB to spread the message of a #DrugsFreeBharat #NashaMuktBharat #azadifromdrugs".

In the video, Alia addressed the issue of drug addiction, calling it a growing threat to individuals, society, and the nation. She asked people to support the special campaign by saying yes to life and no to drugs. She also encouraged viewers to take an e-pledge through the link or QR code provided, stressing the importance of collective action in fighting this problem.

The response online, however, was largely negative. The post received only six comments before the reply option was disabled, but trolling continued through quote tweets, where people didn’t hold back their criticism. Many users called the video ironic and even funny, with some questioning the choice of featuring Alia in such a campaign, making the entire conversation more about the controversy than the intended message.

On the work front, Alia was last seen in Jigra and will soon be seen in Alpha and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, where she stars alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal. With these big projects lined up, the actress continues to remain in the spotlight both for her professional choices and her off-screen appearances.

Dhurandhar crew health update: Authorities confirm chicken contamination behind Leh incident

Several crew members on the sets of Dhurandhar, the highly anticipated Ranveer Singh-starrer, recently fell ill during filming in Leh, prompting immediate medical attention. Initial reports speculated that poor food quality or cost-cutting measures on set might have caused the incident, but local authorities have now clarified that the matter was part of a wider chicken contamination issue reported across Leh, unrelated to the facilities or food provided by the film’s production.

A source associated with the project stressed, "This is one of the biggest films in production right now. Why would there be any need for cost cutting at all? Leh is an incredibly difficult terrain to shoot. This is a unit of over 300 people. There was a local contamination issue which led to this. It is horrible that such ridiculous rumours are floating."

Insiders also highlighted that the safety and well-being of the crew have always been a top priority. “Health, hygiene, and crew safety have consistently been treated as top priorities. Additional precautions and stricter supplier checks are now in place, even as the unit has resumed work," the source added, reassuring fans that filming continues under controlled conditions.

Dhurandhar is now in its final leg of production, with a few weeks of shoot remaining in Leh. The source confirmed, “We have another few weeks of shoot left here. We will wrap and be back in Mumbai by mid-September."

Directed, co-written, and co-produced by Aditya Dhar, the film is backed by producers Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios. Featuring an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Akshaye Khanna, alongside Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in supporting roles, Dhurandhar is set against a high-stakes intelligence operation involving complex political conspiracies, national security threats, and personal dilemmas.

Presented by Jio Studios, a B62 Studios production, Dhurandhar is written, directed, and produced by Aditya Dhar, and produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar. The spy action thriller has generated significant buzz, with fans eagerly awaiting its scheduled release on December 5, 2025. The Leh shoot, though challenged by the high-altitude terrain, has continued without interruption, reaffirming the production’s commitment to both cinematic excellence and crew safety.

Anurag Kashyap slams AI-made Lord Hanuman film, calls out producers: “You should be in the gutter”

On Tuesday, Abundantia Entertainment and Collective Media Network announced a new film on Lord Hanuman that is reportedly being made entirely with Artificial Intelligence (AI). The announcement quickly stirred up heated debates within the Indian film fraternity, with many filmmakers and artists voicing concerns over the lack of a humane touch in creativity.

Among those who expressed strong displeasure was filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, known for his unfiltered opinions and acclaimed works like Gangs of Wasseypur. Taking to Instagram, Kashyap shared a long note sharply criticizing the production houses for this move and questioned the role of artist representation agencies in enabling such projects.

Kashyap’s post read, “Congratulations @vijaysubramaniam84 . Here is the man heading the @lifeatcollectiveartistsnetwork that represents artists, writer, directors , now producing a film made by AI . So much for looking after and representing the interests of creators. End of the day , all these agencies are only interested in making money off you and since they choose turkeys after turkeys for you and you’re not making enough for them , they are going all AI.”

He further continued, “Any actor or anyone who calls themselves artists and has a spine will be and should be either questioning him or leaving the agency since he has proved that he thinks you’re no match for his AI performance . This right here is the future for the spineless and cowardly so called artists in the Hindi Film industry. Well done Vijay Subramaniam . Shame is not enough on you. You should be in the gutter.”

A post shared by Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap10)

Kashyap’s explosive remarks immediately gained traction, with many in the industry resonating with his sentiment. His long-time friend and collaborator, Vikramaditya Motwane, also weighed in on the matter. The filmmaker, who earlier directed a project exploring the impact of Artificial Intelligence and its control over the public, voiced his criticism through his Instagram story. Motwane wrote, “And so it begins… Who TF needs writers and directors when it’s ‘Made in AI’.”

The joint backlash from Kashyap and Motwane reflects a larger concern brewing in the creative industry, where AI-generated art and content are increasingly being positioned as replacements for human creativity. While production houses hail technology as the future of filmmaking, many directors, writers, and actors fear that this shift undermines the very essence of storytelling rooted in human experiences.

With this controversy making headlines, the debate around the role of AI in cinema is expected to intensify, leaving the industry divided between innovation and authenticity.

SCOOP: Mahesh Manjrekar approaches Sanjay Dutt to play the lead in Hindi remake of Juna Furniture

Mahesh Manjrekar and Sanjay Dutt once made for an envious director-actor jodi. Both collaborated for the first time on Vaastav (1999). The film turned out to be a cult and is considered to be one of the most accomplished performances of the actor. Later, Mahesh Manjrekar directed Sanjay Dutt in Kurukshetra (2000), Hathyar (2002), Pitaah (2002), Rakht (2004), Viruddh (2005) and Vaah Life Ho Toh Aisi (2005). If all goes well, both might join hands once again, after nearly two decades, for the remake of the acclaimed 2024 Marathi film, Juna Furniture.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Mahesh Manjrekar directed Juna Furniture and he played the main lead. The film got a lot of critical acclaim for its message, subject and performances. Mahesh realized that it has the potential to touch the Hindi-speaking audiences as well. Hence, he has begun work on the scripting of the Hindi remake.”

The source further said, “He has approached Sanjay Dutt as he feels that the veteran actor will do complete justice to the role. Both Mahesh Manjrekar and Sanjay Dutt are fond of each other. They have had a great time working with each other and it’s been a while since they collaborated on a project. This was also a reason why the filmmaker was keen on getting the actor on board. However, Sanjay Dutt is yet to reply to Mr Manjrekar on whether he'll be able to act in the remake.”

Juna Furniture is the story of a senior citizen and his son, an IAS officer. The senior citizen often finds himself in need of money and has to ask his son for it. Once, when the father has a similar need, the son is unavailable. The father is so distraught with this experience that he files a case against his son. The film also starred Bhushan Pradhan, Anusha Dandekar, Sameer Dharmadhikari, Sachin Khedekar, Shivaji Satam, Upendra Limaye and Mahesh's wife Medha Manjrekar.

Meanwhile, there were reports earlier this year that Mahesh Manjrekar and Sanjay Dutt might also collaborate on Vaastav 2.

Vivek Agnihotri warns of legal action if The Bengal Files release is blocked in West Bengal

Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has warned that he will pursue legal recourse if the release of his film The Bengal Files is prohibited in West Bengal. This statement came during a press conference following the disruption of the film’s trailer launch in Kolkata.

Scheduled to hit theatres on September 5, The Bengal Files delves into the Calcutta riots of August 16, 1946, triggered by the All-India Muslim League’s call for “Direct Action Day” .

Vivek Agnihotri recounted the series of setbacks faced during the trailer launch: it was initially cancelled by a multiplex, then shifted to a hotel where the power suddenly went out, and police eventually intervened to inquire whether proper permissions had been obtained .

“We will go by the Constitution. We will go legally. If they stop us, we will take the legal course. What can we do? We are common citizens like you… We will pray that sanity prevails and the state government does not do it,” said the director, directly challenging the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government over alleged suppression of the film .

Addressing controversy involving Gopal Chandra Mukherjee—whose grandson Santanu Mukherjee has registered an FIR claiming the film portrays his grandfather as a “butcher”—Agnihotri clarified that the character is “an inspired character and not central to the plot.” He added, “I will not go into his history. Watch Santanu's interview. I can give you all the links. There is an interview of Gopal Mukherjee on BBC. In that interview, what he has said, we have only shown that much. I have nothing to do with Gopal Mukherjee's life, politics. He was a hero, and I have shown him as a hero.”

He said, “I respect Gopal Mukherjee a lot. His grandsons work with TMC. There is a compulsion there… They have done it legally. We are giving a legal answer to that.”

Agnihotri framed his work as an effort to bring forward “untold stories of India,” explaining: “Our purpose is very clear. I make films on Hindu civilization. That is why I make films on Hindu history. I do not consider myself capable of making films on Islamic history or Christian history.”

PVR Inox's popcorn power: Despite ticket sales dropping Rs. 316 cr, F&B spends rise 1.5%

Despite a sharper-than-expected decline in moviegoers during FY25, PVR Inox — India’s largest multiplex chain — managed to keep revenues afloat by leaning into its Food & Beverage (F&B) offerings, according to company filings and annual reports. The cinemas business faced headwinds from a fallout of the 2023 Hollywood strikes and a softer line-up of mainstream Indian films. Footfalls dropped significantly — ticket sales earnings plunged from Rs. 3,258 crore in FY24 to approximately Rs. 2,942 crore last year, accounting for a Rs. 316 crore fall. Admissions fell nearly 10%, shrinking from 15.14 crore to 13.69 crore overall.

Yet the silver lining came from concessions. Not only did the average ticket price remain stable at Rs. 259, but the average spend per customer on F&B rose 1.5% — from Rs. 132 to Rs. 134. This helped F&B income decline at a lower rate of around Rs. 153 crore, compared to the sharper drop in ticketing revenue. Overall, cinema food revenues dropped from Rs. 1,886 crore to Rs. 1,733 crore. The company clearly doubled down on its F&B business as a growth lever. It launched its first proprietary brand, ‘Dog Father’ hot dogs and rolled out non-vegetarian menus across 116 Inox screens. In a strategic pivot beyond cinemas, PVR Inox entered a joint venture with Devyani International to operate food courts in malls — one has launched in Kota, Rajasthan, with 7 to 9 more planned in FY26.

The home delivery and outdoor catering segments too showed momentum, with aggregator-led deliveries increasing 20% to an average Rs. 2 crore per month in sales. A standout success came from a key snack investor, Zea Maize, which owns the premium popcorn brand ‘4700 BC.’ Its revenues surged nearly 35%, reaching Rs. 102 crore in FY25. With expansion plans into retail and modern trade, the brand is tapping into India’s rapidly growing snacks sector, projected to double from Rs. 45,000 crore in FY23 to Rs. 85,000 crore by 2030. Premium offerings in the segment are forecast to grow even faster.

To facilitate this boost, PVR Inox invested Rs. 44.7 crore in Zea Maize during FY25, earmarking funds for production scale-up as well as hiring leadership for sales and marketing.

Amid the cinema slowdown, PVR Inox’s adaptive strategy underscores the shift toward an integrated entertainment experience — one where popcorn and concessions play a key role in driving business even when ticket sales dip.

Vivek Agnihotri faces FIR over alleged misrepresentation of Freedom Fighter Gopal Mukherjee in new film trailer

Vivek Agnihotri directorial The Bengal Files witnessed a fresh controversy as Shantanu Mukherjee, grandson of celebrated Bengali freedom fighter Gopal Mukherjee, filed a police complaint against the filmmaker. The grievance comes in response to the trailer of Agnihotri's upcoming political drama, unveiled on August 16, which coincides with the 80th anniversary of the "Great Calcutta Killings," also known as 'Direct Action Day.'

According to Shantanu Mukherjee, the film inaccurately portrays his grandfather, calling him “Kashai” (meaning butcher) and “Patha” (meaning goat), terms he describes as deeply disrespectful. "My grandfather was an important figure in the freedom movement, working alongside prominent leaders, with his ideology aligned with Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. To label him in such derogatory terms is not only historically inaccurate but also offensive to our family and the community," Shantanu stated in a statement reported by India Today.

In protest, Shantanu has sent a legal notice to Vivek Agnihotri and lodged a formal FIR demanding a public apology. He expressed frustration that the filmmakers failed to consult the family or verify historical facts before the release of the trailer. "I think Vivek Agnihotri should research more on this. From where did they get this wrong information? He has not contacted us either. That's why we are protesting and will continue to do so," he said.

The film, which is the third installment in Agnihotri’s "Files Trilogy" following The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022), revolves around the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings and the Noakhali riots. It seeks to depict the events as genocide and highlights how these historical atrocities were allegedly silenced or ignored in mainstream narratives. The trailer's release on the anniversary of the tragedy has added emotional weight and intensified public scrutiny.

Film analysts note that Agnihotri’s projects often stir debate for their portrayal of historical events, and this latest controversy underscores the sensitivity surrounding depictions of real-life freedom fighters. Historians and community leaders have echoed Shantanu’s concerns, emphasizing the importance of responsible storytelling when representing figures who played pivotal roles in India’s independence movement.

The dispute raises critical questions about the responsibility of filmmakers to consult families and historians before dramatizing historical events. Whether the controversy will lead to edits in the film or a formal apology remains to be seen, but the FIR and legal notice signal that the debate is only just beginning.

Vivek Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files trailer stopped in West Bengal; says, “Democracy is dead in Tagore and Vivekananda’s land”

On Saturday, the trailer launch of Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming and much-debated film The Bengal Files, which depicts the 1946 Calcutta communal riots, was halted at a luxury hotel in Kolkata. The move was met with little surprise, given the sensitive subject matter and the expected backlash. The ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal is known for its strong stance on protecting the state’s minority community.

A senior Trinamool leader, who is also a veteran actor, told this writer on condition of anonymity, “It is unlikely Agnihotri’s film will be released in West Bengal. He has a reputation for being a troublemaker. The Kashmir Files stirred up disturbing anti-Muslim sentiments. That won’t be allowed to happen here.”

Responding to the incident, Vivek Agnihotri took to social media, tweeting, “With anguish I inform you: Today West Bengal police, on orders of ‘top authorities’, illegally stopped the trailer of #TheBengalFiles. First theatres, now even a private hotel.”

Later, speaking further on the controversy, Agnihotri remarked, “Who fears the truth of Hindu genocide? And why? Democracy is dead in Tagore and Vivekananda’s land. The trailer is now being seen all over the country, but since it is based in Bengal, we wanted its launch here. They don’t want the atrocities on Bengali Hindus in 1946 and the fightback of people like Gopal Mukherjee to be shown in cinema. If it is a part of history, do you want to change history? There can be only one reason behind such a move — to ignore the conspiracy to divide Bengal again.”

Veteran actor Anupam Kher, who essays the role of Mahatma Gandhi in The Bengal Files, also came forward in support of the film. Speaking exclusively to this writer, Kher said, “The Bengal Files tells only the truth. Why fear the truth?”

Aryan Khan turns storyteller as Netflix unveils first glimpse of The Ba***ds of Bollywood

Netflix, in collaboration with Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., has unveiled the much-anticipated first look of The Ba***ds of Bollywood, marking Aryan Khan’s official directorial debut. The streaming giant shared a teaser across its social media platforms, giving audiences a first taste of what promises to be an unconventional, high-energy series.

The teaser opens with a voiceover reminiscent of the romantic tone from his father Shah Rukh Khan starrer classic Mohabbatein, evoking nostalgia for Bollywood’s golden era. However, the atmosphere quickly shifts, landing a biting punchline that signals a departure from convention. While the voice might faintly remind audiences of Shah Rukh Khan, the delivery, intent, and freshness is introduced by none other than Aryan showcasing his uniqueness.

With this teaser, Aryan Khan steps into the limelight as a storyteller in his own right. His opening words in the video encapsulate the essence of the show: “Bollywood – jisse aapne saalon se pyaar bhi kiya aur vaar bhi kiya, main bhi wohi karunga, bohot saara pyaar… aur thoda sa vaar.” The line suggests that the series will celebrate Bollywood’s charm while also critiquing its clichés, blending reverence with rebellion.

Described as “fun, filmy, aur thoda zyaada,” the show aims to straddle the line between homage and satire. It promises to be provocative yet rooted, stylised yet chaotic, bringing forward a voice that represents a generational shift in how Bollywood stories are told and consumed.

The series features an ensemble cast including Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Manoj Pahwa, Mona Singh, Manish Chaudhari, Raghav Juyal, Anya Singh, Vijayant Kohli, and Gautami Kapoor. With such a diverse lineup, expectations are high for a multi-layered narrative packed with drama, humour, and self-awareness.

Behind the scenes, The Ba***ds of Bollywood has heavyweight backing. Gauri Khan serves as the producer, while Bonnie Jain and Akshat Verma take on the role of executive producers. Aryan Khan co-created the series along with Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan, with the trio also credited as writers.

The teaser concludes with Netflix’s announcement that a detailed preview of the series will be released on August 20, setting the stage for one of the most talked-about debuts in recent memory.

As anticipation builds, Aryan Khan’s first project signals not only a personal milestone but also the arrival of a new narrative voice - one that dares to playfully dissect the very industry it was born into.
