ITZY announces new mini-album CHECKMATE to release on July 15; drops first world tour dates

South Korean female group ITZY has announced their much awaited comeback album, titled CHECKMATE. The announcement was made on June 1st along with the dates of their first world tour. The album drops on  July 15, 2022 following which the group will have a comeback special on the network, Mnet.

The following month, ITZY, will be begin their first world tour with the same name as the album. The first two shows begin in Seoul on August 6 and 7. While they plan to announce more dates, the group will head to eight cities in United States of America in October and November 2022. ITZY will perform in Los Angeles on October 26, following which they will be on stage in Phoenix on October 29, Dallas on November 1, Houston on November 3, Atlanta on November 5, Chicago on November 7, Boston on November 10, and New York on November 13.

This marks ITZY first comeback since their last release Crazy in Love in September 2021. The group ranked No. 11 on the Billboard 200. Additionally, the album also ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s top-selling albums for the week. Previously, their mini-album Guess Who, which was released on April 30, 2021, quickly helped ITZY debut on the Billboard 200 chart No. 148 spot with their latest album as the lead track ‘마.피.아 In the Morning’ made its way to Billboard Global 200 chart opening at No. 34.

Park Shin Hye and Choi Tae Joon welcome their first child, a baby boy

South Korean actors Park Shin Hye and Choi Tae Joon, who tied the knot in January 2022, have welcomed their first child. The couple had announced the pregnancy ahead of their marriage. The duo, who held their wedding at a church in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, have become parents to a baby boy.

According to Korean tabloid Soompi, a statement released by Park Shin Hye's agency SALT Entertainment reads, "We are sharing news that actress Park Shin Hye gave birth to a healthy baby boy at a hospital in Seoul today (May 31). Actress Park Shin Hye and her child are in good health, and she is resting with the blessings of her husband, actor Choi Tae Joon, and her acquaintances. We express deep gratitude to everyone who has sent congratulatory messages, and we ask that warm blessings and support be sent to actor Park Shin Hye and Choi Tae Joon who have welcomed a valuable life."

On the work front, Choi Tae Joon was last featured in iQiyi web series The Man’s Voice. On the other hand, Park Shin Hye was last seen in 2021 Netflix/JTBC drama Sisyphus: The Myth .

Johnny Depp wins defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard; Aquaman actress ordered to pay $15 million in abuse claims

As the highly publicized defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard wrapped up on May 27, a virginia jury awarded Johnny Depp $15 million in the defamation suit against Amber Heard on June 1, 2022. The jury ruled in Depp's favour in three claims that Heard's op-ed in The Washington Post defamed him when she called herself a surviour of domestic abuse.

“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words,” Heard said in a statement. “I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.”

Heard added, “I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.”

Depp, in a lengthy statement, said that he got his life back after six years. "Six year ago, my life, the life of my children, the lives of those closest to me and also the lives of the people, who for many, many years have supported and believed in me, were forever changed. All in the blink of an eye,” Depp said. “False, very serious and criminal allegations were levied at me via the media, which triggered an endless barrage of hateful content, although no charges were ever brought against me. It had already travelled around the world twice within a millisecond and it had a seismic impact on my life and career. And six years later, the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.”

He added, "My decision to pursue this case, knowing very well the height of the legal hurdles that I would be facing and the inevitable, worldwide spectacle into my life, was made only after considerable thought. From the very beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome [...] I feel at peace knowing I have accomplished that."

For the unversed, Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for $50 million over a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she described herself as a victim of domestic violence. Heard counter-sued for $100 million claiming that his denials of her accusations have in turn damaged her career.

Singer KK's preliminary autopsy reveals no foul play

In one of the most tragic news coming in from the music industry, popular Indian singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, who was known as KK, passed away on May 31 after reportedly suffering from a cardiac arrest. He was rushed to a private hospital in the city after his concert, where he was pronounced dead. He was 53. KK's untimely demise has sent shockwaves across the nation. An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday. While the officials will have to wait for the final report, which will be available after 72 hours, the preliminary findings rule out foul play.

“The initial report suggested that the singer died because of myocardial infarction. There was no foul play behind his death. Clinical examination also found that the singer was having prolonged cardiac issues,” the officer said, according to Indian Express.

According to the reports, a case of unnatural death was registered at the New Market police station following the demise of the singer. KK, on Tuesday, performed at the Nazrul Mancha auditorium till 8:30 pm. He fell ill suddenly following which he returned to his hotel. When his condition worsened at the Grand Hotel, he was rushed to the hospital in Kolkata and was pronounced dead.

The autopsy was conducted at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata on Wednesday. The police will also check the CCTV footage at the hotel and talk to the staff and event organizers.

KK recorded songs in several languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali, among other languages. He sang several popular songs including 'Yaaron', 'Pal', 'Tu Hai Aasman Mein', 'Khuda Jaane' among others.

"Samrat Prithviraj depicts the Indian culture of respecting and empowering women" - Home Minister Amit Shah praises Akshay Kumar starrer

Akshay Kumar’s next is Yash Raj Films’ first historical, Samrat Prithviraj, which is based on the life and valour of the fearless and mighty King Prithviraj Chauhan. He is essaying the role of the warrior who fought to protect India from the merciless invader Muhammad of Ghor. Last night, a special screening was hosted for Home Minister Amit Shah.

Salman Khan leaves for Abu Dhabi to host IIFA 2022

Recently there was news that Abhishek Bachchan will be taking off to attend the 22nd Edition of IIFA. The award function will be held on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi this year. After the end of the pandemic, this year’s IIFA is expected to feature grandeur and some star-studded performances. As per recent reports, Salman Khan will be attending the award function and has already flown to the UAE earlier today evening. Not just him, actors like Nora Fatehi, Tiger Shroff and Ananya Panday too has left the city for their IIFA 2022 preps.

We had earlier reported that Salman Khan will be hosting IIFA 2022 along with comedian host-actor Maniesh Paul as well as popular actor Riteish Deshmukh. While this will be a fun affair to watch, the award function is also expected to feature some very interesting performances from Shahid Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, Kartik Aaryan, and Nora Fatehi among others. In fact, the award function will mark the live stage performance debut of newbie Ananya Panday.  Just a day ago, we had reported that Abhishek Bachchan will be flying with wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to attend the 22nd edition of IIFA Awards. It seems that the Bachchan Junior will also be putting up a performance on stage.

Besides the hosts and performers, the guest list in attendance for the 22nd edition of IIFA will include Mithun Chakraborty, Boney Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Lara Dutta, Tamannaah Bhatia, Nargis Fakhri, Bobby Deol, Urvashi Rautela, Arjun Rampal, and Sanya Malhotra, among others. IIFA 2022 was supposed to be held in May 2022 but was postponed due to the sudden demise of President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The main event will now be held on June 4.
